New Homes, Wired Around How You Will Live

On a new build we start with the prints and give you a clear base price from what is on them. After framing we walk the house with you and dial in the details: recessed lighting, ceiling fans, flood lights, under-cabinet lighting, and the extra circuits worth adding while the walls are open.

Once the scope is set we typically rough the house in within three or four days, and handle the finish in about three once the house is ready. When power is on, we hot check and test everything in the house before we call it complete. For new builds we will travel beyond our usual counties when the project makes sense.

Our Process

How a New Build Goes

01

Price from the prints

You get a base price from the plans, with honest notes on anything worth changing.

02

Walk the frame

After framing we walk the house together and set the final scope: lighting, fans, circuits, and placements.

03

Rough in

Typically three or four days in the frame, coordinated with the builder and the inspector.

04

Finish and hot check

Devices and fixtures go in, then we hot check and test everything in the house once power is on.

What Affects the Cost of New Construction Wiring

Every job gets a clear, fair quote before work starts, and estimates are always free. These are the things that move the number.

  • Square footage and the complexity of the plans
  • The lighting design, which is where scope moves most
  • Service size and panel layout for the loads the house will carry
  • Site distance, since we travel further for new builds when the project makes sense
  • Schedule coordination with the builder and inspections

Close to home: New house builds take us across the Yadkin Valley and, when the project calls for it, beyond our usual counties. Builders bring us back for the same reason homeowners do: the rough-in shows up on schedule, and the hot check at the end means the punch list stays short.

New Construction Wiring, in Detail

Print Review and Base Pricing

We price from the prints so you have a real number early, and we flag anything on the plans that will fight the electrical before it becomes a change order. Print sets vary in how much electrical detail they carry. When the drawings are light, we tell you what we assumed in the base price, so there are no surprises when the real scope shows up at the walkthrough.

The Framing Walkthrough

The most valuable hour of the project. With the frame up, we walk the house with you and add or move lighting, fans, and circuits while it is still easy. Bring the way you actually live to this walkthrough. Where the Christmas tree goes, which wall the television will hang on, whether the garage needs a compressor circuit. Those details cost almost nothing now and are expensive to add after drywall.

Rough-In

Boxes, home runs, and circuits pulled through the frame, typically within three or four days, coordinated with your builder's schedule and inspections. We coordinate with the plumber and the HVAC crew so nobody is drilling through work somebody else just finished. Keeping those trades out of each other way is most of what keeps a rough-in on schedule.

Finish and Trim-Out

Devices, fixtures, panel termination, and labeling, usually about three days once the house is ready for it. Trim out is also when we set device heights consistently, so switches and outlets line up from room to room instead of drifting a half inch each time.

Hot Check and Final Testing

Once power is on we test every circuit, device, and fixture in the house. The house is done when everything works, not when the last cover plate goes on. We hand over a labeled panel at the end, with every circuit identified in plain language rather than shorthand only an electrician would follow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Amplified Electric technician at work
01 When should the electrician get involved in a new build?

At the print stage. Pricing from the plans gives you a real number early, and catching layout issues before framing is far cheaper than after.

02 What happens at the framing walkthrough?

We walk the framed house with you and finalize lighting, fans, flood lights, under-cabinet lighting, and extra circuits while the walls are still open. It is where the house gets tailored to you.

03 How long does wiring a new house take?

Typically three or four days for rough-in and about three for finish, depending on the house. We coordinate with your builder so the electrical never holds up the schedule.

04 Do you work directly with builders and general contractors?

Yes. We regularly work from prints with builders and GCs, and our commercial page covers that side of the business in more detail.

05 Do you travel outside your normal area for new builds?

Yes. For new house builds we go beyond our usual counties when the project makes sense. Ask us about your site.
